Data Visualization and Storytelling Essentials
This session will cover the essentials of how to use data visualization to communicate your project/research into a compelling story that resonates with your audience. You will discover the power of data visualization and how to harness that power to turn a good map, chart, or presentation into something great. In this workshop you will learn the fundamentals of data visualization, understand accessibility issues, and get hands-on experience making better charts and maps.

Jami Dennis, GISP, is passionate about data visualization and helping others improve how they communicate through visuals. She teaches workshops on visualization, storytelling, and presentation skills.
With thirty years of experience in GIS, socio-economic research, and data analysis, Jami brings a broad and deep skill set to her work. Her background includes expertise in GIS for transportation, database development, graphic design, and web development. She spent twenty-five years working in state and regional government in Arizona before before moving to private practice. Jami is the owner of Geodetic Analysis LLC, where she now provides GIS, data analysis, and data visualization services. She is also the author of GIS for Dummies (2nd Edition).

Karol Francis
Karol Francis has 10 years of experience in GIS, data analysis, workflow development, data visualization, and project management. She is a Technical Project Lead at Works Consulting in Gilbert, Arizona, where she develops processes to marry disparate datasets and builds data visualizations. Karol is passionate about process efficiency, data governance, and quality control. She has a Master of Science in GIS from the University of Arizona and is an FME Desktop Certified Professional. Karol lives in Phoenix, Arizona, with her husband, twin teenagers, and Lord Helmet, the family’s pet tortoise.
